Don't Be Content with Yesterday

Content with Yesterday
“I’d be content with yesterday.”
from the poem by Karen Gershon “Lot’s Wife”

Maybe the above sentence from Karen Gershon's poem truly does explain what Lot’s wife wanted – another chance at yesterday.  By turning toward the corrupt and evil city of Sodom, she refused to be satisfied with today and said "no" to the fresh start being offered to her.

Change – what she resisted – would have allowed her legs to keep moving, but the longing for the past, for yesterday, caused deadly paralysis.  She remained stuck for eternity in the salt of yesterday.

Today we don’t have the worry of becoming a pillar of salt, trapped inside the past.  But we do have a choice whether to keep our eyes on the rearview mirror of life or on what’s right in front of us, the present moment.

Where are you living today?  Locked in the prison of yesterday?  Or enjoying the spacious place of today?
