Family Reunions

Family Reunions

Reunion #1
Pride planned the reunion, being quite impressed with herself. Feeling entitled to participate in the event, the relative Ingratitude was the first to arrive. Slowly other relatives emerged seemingly from the shadows. Self-love wasted little time with cumbersome introductions, but made sure to present himself in a way that showed off his stature. Not so interested in talking to relatives, Jealousy spent her day perusing everything she coveted in Pride's home. Arrogance reached out boldly to shake hands with others, all the while keeping her nose pointed upward.

Reunion #2
In another part of town, Humility sought to organize her own family’s yearly reunion and was so appreciative of others' excitement for the event. Many showed up that day to quietly help behind the scenes.  Love had called up several who may have chosen not to attend due to past hurts. Trust, as usual, made sure that commitments made were kept. Kindness planned his role of being able to touch and bless many. And Gratitude expressed her thanks to everyone who helped make the event one to be remembered.

Now which reunion would you like to attend?

Face the Book

Face the Book

The pastor's instruction to the Sunday morning congregation,
"Face the Book."

I watch as people around me turn their bodies,
positioning themselves toward the huge Bible
in the hands of the pastor.

"God of the Book,
neither sideways or half-heartedly
do I turn toward You.

I stand in holy fear as I present myself to You directly
without defense -
for You are the wonderful Word of Life."
