Reflection

Reflection
..to read without reflecting is like eating without digesting. – Edmund Burke

I sit at the abundant banquet table of life
and shovel in delicious food of
tasty words
until my brain signals “full.”

Later there is a chance to digest,
to reflect on these words
and banter questions back and forth
in my mind and heart.

But sleepiness wins.
I nap.
Upon waking all is forgotten.

Over the Hill

Over the Hill

Are you afraid of what lies beyond
and over that hill?

I am so grateful that God is already there,
ready to walk with me on
the last leg of my life journey.

No fear,
only gratitude.

Adapting

Adapting

Her adaptable temperament
Welcomes surprises
Seeking not to resist
What God authorizes.

She flexes and bends
In transition and change
But the times of routine
Let her catch breath again.

The last decades on earth
Bring life’s biggest challenge
As she loosens the grip
On what is taken for granted.

Change is uncomfortable,
Inconvenient, disturbing
But its presence can prompt
such growing and learning.

So today she adjusts
And embraces the time
To give praise to her Maker
The glorious divine.
