Surrender
II Chron. 20:1-22
In the above passage, we read of Jehoshaphat, King of Judah, being faced with an enemy coalition of vast fighting strength. No human answers were available that could possibly bring military success, so Jehoshaphat chose a prayer gathering of his people to put the dilemma before God. “. . .We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on you” (vs. 12). A simple plea from a godly king.
Jehoshaphat’s cry of utter helplessness is not the expected response of a leader standing against insurmountable odds, at least not according to today’s standards. We look to leaders to give hope, to have answers, to be strong, and to definitely not fall apart under pressure. When a leader admits to not having answers to overwhelming problems, his reputation and career are called into question.
Not so in God’s realm. Those who humble themselves in a posture of surrender find answers that lie only in Him. God’s response to Jehoshaphat: “You will not need to fight in this battle. Stand firm, hold your position, and see the salvation of the Lord on your behalf. . .” (vs. 17). The end result: victory.
Are you on your knees today, faced with no answers, no solutions to very difficult circumstances? Turn to God in prayer; surrender, listen for His answers.
Lord. . . help. In Jesus’ victorious name, Amen.
