A Bed of Gratitude

A Bed of Gratitude
Immediately he stood up in front of them, took what he had been lying on. . . Luke 5:25a

He couldn't believe it -- he was standing on limbs that should have no muscle to hold him up! He looked down and then directly into the eyes of Love. He waited for some explanation but nothing came.

The man bent down to pick up his "bed of affliction," but struggled inside himself with this small action. The bed represented his pre-miracle years, so why not just leave it by the side of the road? Was he afraid that he may need it later. . . or that it was an important part of his identity?
"God, do I need it so that I won't forget … so that I will never, ever, ever forget?"  Maybe he would use it for the rest of his life to tell this miracle story, or to simply illustrate one chapter in his entire life story.
He had a past - a pre-miracle past - and he was now on the post-miracle road. There could be no future without the past.  Carrying the bed was his testament of gratitude.
(and went home praising God. Luke 5:25b)
